2010 Folklorama Africa Pavilion

 

2010 Folklorama Africa Pavilion


The Folklorama Africa Pavilion is on again this year. Preparations are underway and Acomi (sponsors of the Pavilion) is happy to invite community groups back to the 2010 Africa Pavilion. Please click on the image above or the link below to view the Africa Pavilion webpage. This year's Pavilion will be running from August 8th - 14th at St Boniface Diocesan High School at 290 Dubuc Street in Winnipeg.

 

All performing groups and volunteers are are expected to register by June 30th. Registration forms are available at the Africa Pavilion site.

University of Winnipeg-ACOMI Student Bursary Program (2010-11)


Winnipeg - May 11, 2010: We are happy to announce the University of Winnipeg-ACOMI Student Bursary Program for the 2010-2011 academic year. This is a pilot program designed to provide financial incentive for African immigrant community youth to begin studies at The Collegiate at The University of Winnipeg (high school courses) or at The University of Winnipeg itself (university courses) during the 2010-11 academic year and the 2011 Spring Term. Continuing students also may be considered for these bursaries. However, preference will be given to new students.

 

Criteria: Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
1. They must be a member of the African immigrant community in Winnipeg.
2. They must show academic promise and potential for success in at the Collegiate or at the University, as recommended by a community representative.
3. They must demonstrate financial need, as assessed by the University’s Awards & Financial Aid Office

ACOMI Presents a Cheque to the Canadian Red Cross Towards Haiti Relief

Winnipeg - May 04, 2010: A delegation from the African Communities of Manitoba (ACOMI) presented a cheque of $2,000.00 to the Canadian Red Cross at the latter regional office on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. The Acomi representatives made up of Patrick Mutumbi, Allieu Sesay and Frank Indome made the presentation on behalf of members of the African community and African Churches in Winnipeg to Lea Gallop, Fund Development Coordinator at the Canadian Red Cross. Mr. Indome indicated that the amount presented was from donations received from various members of the African community to help with relief efforts being undertaken by the Canadian Red Cross in Haiti. Mrs. Gallop thanked the delegation on behalf of the Red Cross.
